SOCAR Sponsors of Candidates event in London
The main sponsor for the Candidates event in London is SOCAR. The Azerbaijan state oil company is famous already in the chess world for sponsoring several elite events in the past as well as the European Team Champions.

They are sponsors of various chess sporting and charitable initiatives in Azerbaijan.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Three production divisions, two oil refineries and one gas processing plant, an oil tanker fleet, a deep water platform fabrication yard, two trusts, one institution, and 22 subdivisions are operating as corporate entities under SOCAR.
Candidates Tournament London 2013
The London Candidates Tournament will determine the challenger who will face, later this year, the current title holder World Champion Vishy Anand for the prestigious FIDE World Championship.

London, January 15, 2013 FIDE and AGON the World Chess Federation’s commercial partner are pleased to announce the players, dates and venue of the 2013 Candidates Tournament. The London Candidates will be the strongest tournament of its kind in history. The Prize Fund to be shared by the players totals €510,000. The winner of the Candidates will become the Challenger to Viswanathan Anand who has reigned as World Champion since 2007.
